Ribosome Information

Made of RNA & Protein that are in cells, Ribosomes have a different structure in each of the three domains of life have very different structures, three domains(Bacteria, Archaea, Eurkarotyes). The Ribosomes functions in the expression of the genetic code from nucleic acid into protein, in a process called translation.Ribosomes do this by helping the assembly of individual amino acids into polypeptides chain; this invloves binding a RNA then using this to join togther the correct sequence of amino acids. Ribosomes are about 20nm and are composed of 65% ribosomal RNA and 35% Ribosomal proteins. Ribosomes main funcitions is to buil dprotien from the genetic instructions held within messenger RNA.

Cool Facts

  • Ribosomes can make up 25% of the dry weight of a cell.
  • Ribosomes help put together hook together amino acids to form polypeptide chains.
  • Free Ribosomes are suspended freely in the Cytoplasm.
